De La Mancha al Mundo

Traveling with conscience

Hi there! Welcome to this blog, and thanks for visiting! If this is your first time in the blog, I must say that this is also my first time writing a post in english. So, welcome!

Maybe we don’t know each other. Or maybe yes. May it be that we are friends since few years already. Can be we’re friend from childhood. Or that we met each other in a summer camp when we were 12. Maybe friends from the Music Academy or Conservatorium. Could possible that we met in Mexico, or in USA, or in other country. In a Youth Exchange from Erasmus+ or a Training course of Youth in Action (Educational Program from EU).  Anyway I just wanted to mark that there is a key date. In the History of the life of Elias Escribano (that’s me) exists a date: July 10th 2016. So we can already use BC or AD, because I really started a new age.  That day I started this RTW biking trip.

For all the people I’ve meet since then -because 95% of them don’t speak spanish- I’m writing this post in english. Because I could tell you about this crazy trip face to face and then invited you to visit the website and…what happens  then? Cant understand the blog, because its written in spanish.

So for all them: this lines are the beginning of a more open way of communication for everybody.

I invited today to the mechanic who helped me (without charging any fee for his work) to visit the blog, after he fixed some difficulties on the pedals axis. For him, or for all the people along the way that has hosted me. In France, Switzerland or in Austria. Warm shower and Couchsurfing is just the way to discover that it exists a beautiful world out there, with many amazing people. So for me, the fact of meet this special people in every place, is the biggest motivation to travel the world by bike.

For me to draw that human landscape trough what I’ve experienced is a very interesting way of learning about the people in each country. I don’t use any guides when traveling. Don’t like to know what I’m going to see in each street. What I should eat in each city or where should I stay at night in this or that place. I love to ask the people, to talk with them. As much as I travel, the lest I prepare about the places I’m visiting. Because its the way to be seduced by a place. There is no secrets. But I like to get lost in the streets and let yourself to be surprised by the magic or the beauty of the place. There are no other secrets: you just have to get lost in the streets of the hills and allow yourself to be surprised and accept the enchantment.

Meeting different people in a different country is to lean about tolerance, about repeat, about democracy. So for me traveling its not only visiting monuments. It’s something else.

As I say in the title: Traveling with conscience. For that, it’s important to have time. To stop at the place and to contemplate with no hurry. You can even breathe deeply.  To be conscience when traveling  means to feel each place, with all the particularities and the things that make it special. Not only to take photos of the monuments. For me more than the monuments, sometimes is the people: I like to mingle with locals. But this is just my way, not the best way or the only one.

Climbing, hiking gives you something difficult to explain, but its beautiful feeling.

Best regards, we keep cycling.

Song of the Open Road. Walt Whitman.

Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.

    Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune,
Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,
Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms,
Strong and content I travel the open road.

    The earth, that is sufficient,
I do not want the constellations any nearer,
I know they are very well where they are,
I know they suffice for those who belong to them.

(Still here I carry my old delicious burdens,
I carry them, men and women, I carry them with me wherever I go,
I swear it is impossible for me to get rid of them,
I am fill’d with them, and I will fill them in return.)

    Ultreya Elias!
